Ship Repairers’ Liability (SRL) protects ship repairers, shipyards, marinas and marine trades against their legal liability for loss of or damage to vessels — and their equipment — while in their care, custody or control. From routine dry-docking and afloat repairs to major refits, a single incident can expose a yard to claims far larger than the value of the contract itself. We place SRL cover into Lloyd’s and the London Market on behalf of retail brokers and MGAs, building submissions that give underwriters a clear, complete picture of the operation.
What Ship Repairers’ Liability covers
Vessels in Care, Custody & Control
Legal liability for physical loss of or damage to vessels — and machinery, gear and equipment — whilst in the insured’s care during repair, service or storage, whether alongside, afloat or in dry dock.
Faulty Workmanship
Liability arising from defective work, repairs or the supply of faulty materials, including the cost of remedying resulting damage to the vessel.
Wreck Removal & Pollution
Liability for the removal of wreck and for sudden and accidental pollution arising from a vessel in the insured’s custody, subject to policy terms.
Trials & Movements
Cover for liabilities during sea trials, docking, undocking and the movement of vessels within the yard or port area.
Contractual Liabilities
Liabilities assumed under repair contracts and yard conditions, reviewed and placed to reflect how the business actually trades.
Third-Party Property
Damage to third-party property and infrastructure arising from repair operations, alongside the marine exposures above.
Who it’s for
We place Ship Repairers’ Liability for brokers and MGAs whose clients include ship repair yards, dry docks, marinas and boatyards, mobile and afloat repairers, marine engineers and fabricators, and diversified marine trades that take vessels into their care. Cover can be arranged for single locations or multi-site operations, and tailored to the size and mix of work undertaken.
Why place Ship Repairers’ Liability through Bissell & Partners
