The Royal Exchange in the City of London with modern towers and a red bus

Excess & Surplus Lines

The Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines market exists for risks that admitted carriers cannot or will not write — hard-to-place occupations, high limits, difficult loss histories and emerging exposures. London has long been the natural home for this business, and Lloyd’s is one of the largest suppliers of surplus lines capacity to the United States. We work with E&S brokers and wholesalers as their route into Lloyd’s and the London Market.

This is a channel we are actively expanding. If you are a US surplus lines broker or wholesaler looking for London capacity, appetite and responsiveness on distressed or specialist risks, we would like to talk. Our appetite spans liability, property, marine, financial lines, specie and environmental, subject to underwriting.

How we support Excess & Surplus lines

London Market Access

A direct route into Lloyd’s and company markets for surplus lines risks, giving your clients capacity that domestic admitted markets can’t provide.

Distressed & Hard-to-Place

A home for risks with difficult loss histories, unusual occupations or coverage needs that fall outside standard appetite.

High & Excess Limits

Additional and excess capacity above domestic primary layers, structured to build the towers your clients need.

Broad Class Appetite

Liability, property, marine, financial lines, specie and environmental — one relationship across multiple classes, subject to underwriting.

Fast, Clear Responses

Well-presented submissions taken straight to the right underwriters, with clear answers on whether and how we can help.

Facility & Open Market

Delegated facilities for risks that fit, and full open-market placement for those that don’t — all Lloyd’s-backed.

Who we work with

US surplus lines brokers and wholesalers, MGAs and program administrators seeking London Market capacity — as well as retail brokers with a surplus lines risk that needs a specialist home. We act as your wholesale partner into Lloyd’s, not in competition with your client relationships.

Expanding our E&S partnerships

We are building our surplus lines book and actively seeking new broker and wholesaler relationships, with a particular focus on the United States and Canada. If you place E&S business and want a responsive London partner with broad appetite and direct market access, get in touch — we protect your client relationships and focus on placing the risk.
